College...

This stage in your life is a weird transition. You just left your high school with people you have known since Kindergarten. These people have been impactful in your life, seen your ups and downs and you all grew together. After you turn that tassel at graduation, you may never see some of these people again. Some people say high school was the best time of their life and others could not wait to escape. College is all about reintroducing yourself and finding some of the best people you will ever meet.

I was one of those people who could not wait to escape high school. I was ready for a new town, new friends, a new everything. I remember all the excitement leading up to moving in and could not wait to meet people. However, it is not as easy as it sounds. I remember when my parents dropped me off I thought, what now? I knew one person and hardly knew my roommate. Feeling like you are alone is so scary, but the good thing is I was not alone. I knew hundreds of other students were in the same position as I was. Making friends did not happen over night, but it was about putting myself out there. I joined clubs and organizations and eventually met my group of people. I would not trade my friends for the world and I am so grateful college brought us together. We all were scared underclassmen looking for friends and it was all about putting yourself out there.

Join clubs and organizations that interest you and reflect who you are as a person. Talk to the person sitting next to you in class or wave to someone you pass by in the hall. You may meet a lifelong friend and someone who you can confide in. College is about yourself and making friends along the way that cheer you on every step.
